Julie Taymor has converted all the cartoon characters into masks and gigantic puppets. And the uniquely bizarre thing about these characters is the way she has presented them! The faces of actors wearing these masks are completely visible! The explanation she gives is that masks are inherently fixed in nature, whereas the original characters of Disney are vibrant with expressions! As such, no amount of skill in mask-making could capture all the varied expressions of each character! Hence she came up with this original concept of letting the actors wear the mask above their heads, so that their faces conveyed the required expressions while the masks identified the characters!
The Puppets
Even in puppetry, the actors managing the puppets are visible to the audience!
