World Of Dance – Young Girls Dance To Single Ladies, Spark Debate
The World Of Dance is a competition intended to “celebrate urban dance.” When a video of very young girls dancing to a Beyonce made it to the internet, though, some started to wonder if World of Dance competition had gone too far. The prize for winning a World of Dance division is $500 in instant cash loans, but these girls seem to have won web infamy. So what’s the big deal?
The Competition behind the World of Dance
The World of Dance competition is an open competition, usually about eight hours long. In age-separated divisions, groups and individuals of all types compete. World of Dance is supposed to be a “modern” dance competition that “embraces urban dance” rather than ballroom or traditional dance competition. With a festival atmosphere and corporate sponsors, the World of Dance Tour is also a financial powerhouse. Everyone from hair stylists to fashion designers also display during the World of Dance Tour.
Controversy erupts over World of Dance video
Many people had never heard of the World of Dance before this video hit YouTube. Just about every news station, and Dr. Phil, have ended up commenting on the competition because of this “Put a Ring On It” video. The girls wore halter tops and hotpants and were definitely shaking it. The girl’s parents and event promoters point out the dance moves came not even from Beyonce’s video, but instead from Alvin and the Chipmunks Squeakquel that was recently released.
World Of Dance’s defense
The World of Dance tour has, along with the parents of these girls, gone on record about the dance controversy. World Of Dance spokespeople says that the girls “did nothing provocative.” The parents point out that this performance was never intended for an international audience – just for the competition.
